Telegraph Fantasy Games Rules
These Telegraph Fantasy Games rules ("Telegraph Fantasy Games Rules") incorporate TMG's Gambling Policy and govern your participation in any of the Telegraph Fantasy Games available on the Games Pages. By playing the Telegraph Fantasy Games, you agree to be bound by the Telegraph Fantasy Games Rules.
TELEGRAPH FANTASY FOOTBALL GAME: 2010/11 RULES
1. DEFINITIONS FOR TELEGRAPH FANTASY FOOTBALL GAME
The following definitions apply in relation to the Telegraph Fantasy Football Game only:
"Application(s)" means the application to enter a team selection in the Competition;
“Key Contribution” means (in relation to scoring points) when one of your selected players makes a significant contribution to a goal scored by his football club. Up to two players may be awarded a Key Contribution for the same goal. No Key Contribution is given to a player who simply touches the ball sideways from a free kick, or to the penalty taker when penalties are saved or come back off the woodwork before a goal is scored. Also, if during a pass to a team mate that results in a goal, an opposing player significantly alters the speed or direction of the ball, then no Key Contribution is given. If a goalkeeper does not have control of the ball and parries a shot or drops a cross or the ball rebounds off the woodwork, the attacking player shooting or crossing the ball may receive the Key Contribution if a goal directly ensues. In the event of a penalty, the player in possession of the ball when fouled for the penalty may get a Key Contribution if it is successfully scored, but not if he takes it himself in which case no Key Contribution is given. No Key contribution is given for a player who earns a free kick that subsequently results in a goal. A Key Contribution may be awarded for an own goal.
"Manager" means the individual responsible for the selection and entry of an individual team to the Competition;
"Competition" means the Telegraph Fantasy Football competition taking place during 2010/11;
"Scheduled kick-off" means the stated published time at which a match is due to start;
"Season" means the period during which the Premier League and FA Cup games of the 2010/11 season take place, which is currently scheduled to run from Saturday, August 14, 2010 until Sunday, May 22, 2011;
"Starting XI" means a Manager’s registered team of eleven players as they stand at midnight on Monday, August 16, 2010.
"Super League" means any league that is set up by a Manager comprising five or more different valid team selections;
"TFF" means Telegraph Fantasy Football;
2. ELIGIBILITY
2.1 "How to enter" and any other instructions detailed in advertisements for TFF on www.telegraph.co.uk/fantasyfootballor in any other TMG publication shall form part of the terms and conditions of this Competition.
2.2 By entering this Competition you agree to be legally bound by such terms and conditions.
2.3 Entry to this Competition is restricted to residents of the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Northern Ireland. GFM and TMG employees, or those employed by GFM's and TMG's subsidiaries and anyone else connected with the Competition may enter but shall not be eligible to claim any of the prizes or take an active part of a Super League which is eligible to win any of the prizes.
2.4 All entrants to TFF must be aged 18 or over.
3. HOW TO ENTER - ONLINE
3.1 There is no limit to the number of TFF teams a Manager may submit provided that each entry adheres to these terms and conditions ("Applications"). Please note that some banks and building societies may make an additional charge for playing fantasy games online. Entrants should check with their bank or building society prior to entry.
3.2 Online Applications should be submitted using the official game site at www.telegraph.co.uk/fantasyfootball. Online Applications must be submitted no later than 12:45pm (British Summer Time) on Saturday, August 14, 2010 in order to score points during the first scoring match (Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City) and:
Entries registered after 12.45pm but before 3pm on Saturday, August 14, 2010 will start scoring points from matches scheduled to start at 3pm on Saturday, August 14.
Entries registered after 3pm but before 5.30pm on Saturday, August 14, 2010 will start scoring points from Chelsea v West Brom, scheduled to kick off at 5.30pm (BST).
Thereafter, entries received prior to the earliest scheduled kick-off each day, will be eligible for points scored that day. Entries received after the earliest scheduled kick-off will be eligible for points scored from the following day. Points will not be backdated.
3.3 To successfully register your team(s) on-line, Managers must pay the registration payment ("Registration Payment") of £6 per team or £10 for three teams.3.4 Credits can be used to create additional teams at any point during the Competition. Online Registration Payments must be paid via the official Telegraph Fantasy Football website. GFM and TMG shall not be responsible for Applications lost in transmission or received late due to high online traffic levels. We recommend that registration and transfers are not left until just before the published deadlines.
3.5 Payments will be processed by Datacash. Your Application will be withdrawn and disqualified if your payment is not cleared in full.
3.6 As a general rule, Registration Payments are non-refundable. Refunds may be given in exceptional circumstances and at TMG's discretion. Your statutory rights are not affected.
3.7 All registrations are subject to acceptance by TMG. GFM will confirm such acceptance to you, on behalf of TMG, by online electronic means (the "Confirmation"). There will be no contract of any kind between you and TMG unless and until you receive a Confirmation.
4. HOW TO ENTER – BY POST
4.1Postal applications should be submitted via an official application form which can be found in any of the following from July 9 2010:
(a) The Daily Telegraph or The Sunday Telegraph (photocopied forms will be accepted)
(b) a direct mailing (photocopied forms will be accepted)
(c) a downloadable pdf application form from www.telegraph.co.uk/fantasyfootball which should be posted to Telegraph Fantasy Football, PO Box 4001, Colchester, CO2 8FW.
To start scoring from the first games, postal applications must be delivered by Saturday, August 14, 2010. Postal applications will not be accepted after 1st post on Thursday, September 30, 2010.
4.2 There shall be a charge of £6 per TFF team ("Registration Payment") in order to allow successful registration of your team(s) by post, and to cover the cost of processing. Registration Payments shall be accepted via a cheque or postal order which should be made payable to Telegraph Fantasy Football or with a valid debit/credit card (details of which must be included on the completed application form). Cash should not be sent and TMG shall not be responsible for any Applications lost in the post, and for incomplete or illegible Applications. Please remember that proof of posting is not a proof of receipt. If your payment is not cleared in full your Application will be withdrawn and disqualified.
5. TEAM NAMES
5.1 TMG reserves the right to refuse to accept any team names or Super League names which have been duplicated or are felt, in TMG's sole discretion, to be inappropriate or offensive. Unsuitable names shall be deleted or amended and the team or Super League shall appear under the Manager's or the Chairman's name. Team names that include website addresses may also be deleted or amended.
6. PLAYER SELECTION LIST
6.1 The players included on the selection list and their values have been determined arbitrarily. Player values remain constant throughout the Competition. TMG shall not enter into any correspondence relating to details of the selection list, nor will it accept the inclusion into a team of any player not on the selection list. New players may be introduced into the Competition by TMG as and when appropriate. These will be listed from time to time within The Daily Telegraph and on www.telegraph.co.uk/fantasyfootball.
7. TEAM SELECTION
7.1 Managers' team selections must consist of 11 players chosen from the selection list. The combined total value of your 11 player team selection must not exceed £50 million at any time throughout the Competition. The team of 11 must include 1 goalkeeper and 4 defenders plus either 3 midfielders and 3 strikers (4-3-3) or 4 midfielders and 2 strikers (4-4-2) or 3 defenders plus 5 midfielders and 2 strikers (3-5-2) or 4 defenders plus 5 midfielders and 1 striker (4-5-1). Managers may switch between formations by making transfers.
7.2 A player can only appear in the same team once at any one time - player duplication is not permitted. There is no additional restriction on the number of players chosen from the same club.
7.3 Managers not wishing to select their own team but wishing to participate in the Competition may do so by clicking the auto team-select button during the application process. The computer will select an eligible team at random and details of that selection will be shown on-screen.
7.4 Managers of valid team selections that provide an email address will receive team confirmation by electronic mail but should be aware that some ISP's and central servers have 'fire walls' or other blocking software, which do not allow distribution of game related communications. Online entries will not be confirmed by post.
8. SCORING POINTS
8.1 Points will be awarded in all FA Premier League and FA Cup matches featuring a Premier League team played from Saturday, August 14, 2010 until and including the final matches, scheduled for Sunday, May 22, 2011. Abandoned matches: points scored from abandoned matches will not count towards any scoring in the Competition.
8.2 Points will be awarded and deducted per match as follows: Player featured in starting XI +2, substitute appearance +1, goal scored (including penalty shoot-outs) +5, Key Contribution (including own goals +3),sent off -3, yellow card -1 (2 yellow cards leading to a red card will count -3), own goal -3, missed penalty (including penalty shoot-outs) - 5. For defenders and goalkeepers only: clean sheet (players completing full match only) +4, clean sheet (players completing part of a match only) +2. Defenders and goalkeepers will lose their clean sheet bonus conceding one goal and will lose 1 point for every additional goal conceded during their appearance. For goalkeepers only: penalty save (including penalty shoot-outs) +5 (for these points to be awarded the goalkeeper must have prevented the penalty from being scored with some part of his body). Key Contributions for goals will be awarded at the sole discretion of the judging panel appointed by TMG. The judges' decision shall be final and TMG will not enter into any correspondence regarding points deducted or allocated to players. Scores will be updated daily, online at www.telegraph.co.uk/fantasyfootball.
9. TRANSFERS
9.1 Managers may alter their teams by effecting transfers, which may be actioned online or via the telephone transfer lines set out below. A total of 30 transfers are available during the Competition. Managers may use as many of their 30 allocated transfers as they choose during any given week. Transfers beyond the maximum number allowed will be rejected.
9.2 Transfers may be made by logging in at www.telegraph.co.uk/fantasyfootball. Transfer requests made online shall be acknowledged via on-screen confirmation. TMG shall not be responsible for transfer applications lost in transmission or received late due to high online traffic levels or for incomplete transfer applications.
9.3 Telephone transfers may be made by calling TMG's Transfer Hotline number 0906 753 8933, from a touch-tone telephone. This service is charged at 75p per minute from a BT landline, non BT landline customers should check with their phone provider for details of costs. The length of the call will depend on the number of transfers being made (i.e. 2 players out and 2 players in may result in an approximate call duration of 2 minutes). To make telephone transfers, Managers will need their unique Team PIN and security code which will be printed in their Manager's pack or advised electronically by email upon application to enter the Competition. Proof of telephoning will not be accepted as proof of the correct transmission of data. Transfer requests made by phone shall be acknowledged at the end of the call, however, TMG shall not be responsible for inaudible or incomplete transmissions.
9.4 Transfers may be submitted at any time from the start of game week two at 00:01 (BST)Tuesday, August 17, 2010 until the scheduled start of play of the last scoring match of the season.
9.5 Players must be transferred before the earliest scheduled kick-off featuring a Premier League team on any match day in order to score points on that day. Players transferred after the earliest scheduled kick-off on any day will score points from the following match day. With all transfers, Managers must ensure that their teams continue to meet the selection criteria. Once submitted, transfer requests cannot be altered under any circumstances.
9.6 Online transfers may be made by logging on to www.telegraph.co.uk/fantasyfootball. Transfer requests made online shall be acknowledged via online confirmation. GFM and TMG shall not be responsible for transfer applications lost in transmission or received late due to high on-line traffic levels.
9.7 In addition to the transfer allocation above, a transfer amnesty shall operate from July 9, 2010 until 12:45pmon Saturday, August 14, 2010 which allows Managers to make any number of changes to their line-up. These changes can be made online at www.telegraph.co.uk/fantasyfootball.
10. SUPER LEAGUES
10.1 Entry into TFF shall give Managers the opportunity to form their own private league ("Super League") at no extra charge. A minimum of five individual teams (there is no maximum) may enter a Super League, one of which must be managed by the chairman ("Chairman").
10.2 A team may only participate in one Super League. Once a team has joined a Super League it is not possible for that entry to be moved into another Super League. If however they are removed from a Super League by a Chairman, that team shall be allowed to join a new Super League provided it adheres to the Super League conditions set out in this clause 10.
10.3 Super Leagues can be registered via www.telegraph.co.uk/fantasyfootball. This facility allows applicants to register their team to the Super League individually. A Chairman must first register the Super League and his/her own team online. The Chairman will select a Super League name and will be allocated a Super League pin which must be given (in exactly the form it appears) to all potential participants to that Super League. The Chairman will be the recipient of all correspondence relating to the Super League.
10.4 In order to score points from the first match, online Super League applications must be received by 12:45pm (BST) on Saturday, August 14, 2010.
10.5 To enter a Super League by post, the Chairman must submit all of their Super League teams along with their own TFF application form and one cheque/credit card payment at £6 per team (for all teams included) in one envelope - to TFF SuperLeagues, PO Box 3550, Colchester CO2 8GB.In order to score points from the first round of scoring matches starting on Saturday, August 14, 2010, postal Super League applications must be received by first post on Saturday, August 14, 2010.
10.6 No further Super League entries will be accepted after 23:59 (BST) on Wednesday, September 29, 2010.
11. PRIZES
Overall
11.1 £50,000 will beawarded at the end of the competition to the Manager whose team is placed at the top of the TFF league table. The prize will be awarded to the Manager whose team has amassed the highest number of points in the league after all the matches within TFF are complete. The final match is scheduled to be played on Sunday, May 22, 2011.
11.2 The Manager whose team finishes with the second highest number of points in the league shall win £5,000 and the Manager whose team finishes with the third highest number of points shall win £1,000. The Manager whose team finishes with the fourth highest number of points shall win £250 and the Manager whose team finishes with the fifth highest number of points shall win £150.
11.3 The Managers whose teams finish in sixth to twentieth place overall will win £100 each.
11.4 An individual Manager may only win ONE of the prizes awarded to the top twenty, regardless of the number of teams entered. If an individual Manager has a number of teams qualifying for top 20 prizes then only the top scoring team from that Manager's teams will be eligible for a prize and the other teams will fall out of the top 20 .
Manager of the Month
11.5 Managers shall also compete for a Manager of the Month prize. This shall consist of a monthly prize of £1,000 awarded to the Manager whose team has amassed the greatest number of points in the previous month. There are 8 monthly prizes in all. Month 1 - August 14, 2010 to September 27, 2010 (treated as a single month for the purposes of the Competition), Month 2 - September 28, 2010 to November 1, 2010, Month 3 – November 2, 2010 to November 29, 2010, Month 4 – November 30, 2010 to January 3, 2011, Month 5 – January 4, 2011 to January 31, 2011, Month 6 – February 1, 2011 to February 28, 2011, Month 7 – March 1, 2011 to March 28, 2011, Month 8 – March 29, 2011 to May 2, 2011. In the event of a tie, the prize will be divided equally between the tying Managers. An individual Manager may win the monthly prize on no more than one occasion during the Season, regardless of the number of teams entered by that Manager. In the event that a Manager scores the most points on an additional occasion, the prize will be awarded to the Manager who has scored the second highest number of points that month and so on until the monthly winner is a Manager who has not previously won the main monthly prize.
Manager of the Week
11.6 Managers shall also compete for a Manager of the Week prize. This shall consist of a weekly prize of £200 to the Manager whose team has amassed the greatest number of points in the previous week of the game (Tuesday to Monday period). The first weekly prize will be awarded for points scored up to and including Monday, August 23, 2010 and weekly thereafter until Sunday, May 22, 2011. Eachwinning Manager will be announced in The Daily Telegraph on the Wednesday following the end of the Tuesday to Monday qualifying period. Prizes will not be awarded for weeks in which no points have been scored, for example, because International fixtures have been played. An individual Manager may win a Manager of the Week prize on no more than one occasion during the Season, regardless of the number of teams entered by that individual Manager.
Super League Prizes
11.7 The best-performing Super League at the end of the Competition will win £1,000. This will be awarded to the Super League with the highest average points total based upon its five highest scoring teams.
Golden Boot
11.8 The Golden Boot prize of £1,000 will be awarded to the Manager of the team that has scored the highest number of goals during the Season. In the event of a tie, the prize will be divided equally amongst the tied Managers.
VIP Chairmen (20+ teams) League
11.9 All Super League Chairmen who have 20 or more eligible teams in their Super League will be allowed to compete for the VIP Chairmen prize. The best-performing Super League Chairman at the end of this competition will win £5,000. This will be awarded to the Super League Chairman whose team has the highest points total at the end of the Competition. The second highest scoring Super League Chairman will win £1,000 and the third highest Chairman will win £500. In the event of a tie, the terms of the section headed Tie Break for Cash Prizes will apply. Eligible Chairmen must have created their Super League containing 20 or more teams by 23:59 (BST) on Wednesday September 29, 2010 to be eligible for this prize.
Divisional Leagues
11.10 After 20 weeks of the season on Tuesday, January 4,2011, the main league will be divided into 10 equally-sized divisions based on positions in the overall league. The top 10% of teams will form Division One, the next 10% of teams will form Division Two and so on. Once established, teams will not be able to move between divisions - teams will keep their accrued score to date. At the end of the season, the team finishing at the top of each division will win £1,000.
Starting XI League
11.11 Every valid team registered by 23.59pm (BST) Monday, August 16, 2010 will also be entered into the Starting XI League. The Starting XI League is a snapshot of each original starting selection (post transfer amnesty i.e. your team as of 23.59pm on Monday, August 16, 2010) and is unaffected by any transfer activity during the season. The Manager whose original team selection accumulates the highest number of points within the Starting XI League during the Season shall win £5,000. Teams registered after the above date and time will not be eligible for participation in the Starting XI. In the event of a tie, the terms of the section headed Tie Break forCash Prizes will apply.
Additional Prizes
11.12 TMG may introduce additional prizes during the Competition. These will be in addition to the prizes outlined above. In the event that TMG does introduce additional prizes, it will ensure that Managers are made aware of any additional terms and conditions as may be applicable.
Tie Break for Cash Prizes
11.13 Except for the Golden Boot Prize and the Manager of the Month Prize, in the event of a tie, preference will be given to the Manager whose team has scored the most goals during the relevant prize period (i.e. seasonal, weekly, etc). If the result is still a tie, preference will be given to the Manager whose team has achieved the most points for key contributions during the relevant prize period (i.e. seasonal, weekly, etc), and thereafter the most clean sheets during the relevant prize period (i.e. seasonal, weekly, etc). If clear positions for the prize winners still do not emerge, the tied Managers will be required to write a job advertisement for the next England manager in no more than 50 words in English. The decision of TMG's judges regarding this tie-breaker shall be final and binding.
11.14 In relation to all of the prizes listed above, TMG's decision in all prize matters shall be final. Winners will be notified in writing. There are no prize alternatives and the prizes are not transferable. Winners may be required to co-operate with reasonable publicity. Winners' names will be published on www.telegraph.co.uk/fantasyfootballon Monday, May 23, 2011 (or shortly thereafter).
12. GENERAL
12.1 TMG reserve the right to refuse to accept any Application which in TMG's opinion does not comply with these terms and conditions or which contravenes the spirit of the Competition.
12.2 Your data will be collected in accordance with TMG's Privacy and Cookie policy. If we carry out checks to verify your age (in order to comply with our obligations to the Gambling Commission) we may provide your data to a credit reference agency that may keep a record of your details. Please do not make an Application if you do not wish this to happen.
12.3 TMG's decision in all Competition-related matters shall be final. Winners will be notified in writing within a reasonable time following a decision by TMG and prizes will be dispatched within 28 days of such notification and payable by way of cheque. There are no prize alternatives and the prizes are not transferable.
12.4 Winners' names, TFF team selections and photographs and any comments made in relation to a prize may be used by TMG without limitation for future promotional, marketing and publicity purposes, in all and any media worldwide without notice and without any fee being paid. Entry and participation in the Competition will be deemed to be your acceptance of these Fantasy Football Rules.
12.5 The name "Telegraph Fantasy Football", other trade marks, images and logos relating to the Promoter and the Competition and used in relation to the Competition are the exclusive property of TMG and your participation in the Competition does not confer any rights to you in or over, or grant you any right to use the aforementioned intellectual property of TMG.
12.6TMG reserves the right at its reasonable discretion to add to or waive these Terms and Conditions on reasonable notice; and/or cancel the game or any part of it at any stage in the event of circumstances beyond TMG's reasonable control.
12.7 GFM and TMG shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered by any person as a result of, or in connection with, or arising from the Competition, any prize, or these Terms, or the use of the same except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.
